THE VILLAGE
Gem of the Italian Renaissance, Pienza is one of the most renowned and arty cities of the whole of Val d’Orcia. Among the most unique and suggestive places we can find its historical centre, UNESCO heritage of humanity, the Cathedral, the Palazzo Comunale, Palazzo Borgia and Palazzo Piccolomini.
HISTORY
Pienza is known by the world, not only for its architectural and landscape beauties, but also because Enea Silvio Piccolomini was born here, who was elected pope on the 19th of august 1458 under the name of Pio II. Thanks to him, from 1459 onwards, works for the “ideal city” begin, directed by the famous architect and sculptor Bernardo Rossellino, who keeps faith to the principles of the Renaissance.
THE ROUTE
Get on board of one of our vintage Fiat 500s and we will drive you through an interactive tour experience. Setting off from Siena and following the GPS instructions, you will cover the countryside of Val d’Arbia and the famous hills of Val d’Orcia, driving through some lovely villages. Interactive videos will guide you through the discovery of the Medieval village of Buonconvento, at the halfway leg. You can park your Fiat 500 in the square,pointed out by the GPS, and visit the famous village of Pienza at your own leisure. Among the treasures to admire and rediscover are the majestic Cathedral, consecrated on the 29th of August 1462 and the stunning Palazzo Piccolomini, with its gorgeous gardens. Even videos are provided, that you can watch on our supplied tablets. You can also taste some of the typical cuisine products of the area, sipping a tasty glass of wine, inside one of the firms affiliated with our company. On the way back, after touring around Pienza, you will cover a unique itinerary through the “crete senesi”, driving through the magnificent centre of Asciano and, eventually, reaching Siena.
